Leblon -Brazilian Rum

Well as usual I ventured after work right over to Manor House for their wine tasting and this time I was very surprised to see what they had. A Brazilian rum made from natural cane cachaca, it goes by the name of “Leblon” the ingredients are very basic and natural made from a fresh pressed cane juice-micro-distilled in a pot called a Alambique which they harvest at the Maison Leblon in Minas Gerias. It takes up to six months to produce such a vintage XO Cognac casks. Its taste can be described as such a lively, fruity nose with complex layers of flavor and an ultra- smooth finish.
There are a variety of ways to enjoy this “champagne of cane” like as a caipirinha, you can have it “neat”, with fruit juice or take it up a notch with any top shelf cocktail; this Brazilian twist is sure to set your taste buds on a lovely road of satisfaction.
In my opinion I enjoyed it very much. I would recommend it to those who like light flavored rum with a twist of pure cane additives.

Morse Code Red wine 2008 Shiraz is from South Australia.
The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Estate's Padthaway vineyards. A small proportion of the wine finished ferment in barrel, but the majority was un-oaked to allow the fruit to shine. It has a percentage of 14.7 of alcohol. Aromas of spicy black pepper and dark red fruits carry over to the flavor. Black pepper on the front of the palate is followed by a gamey mineral taste. Mouth feel is a little rough with some high unrefined tannins and the finish is a bit on the jammy side.
Oak profile: A small proportion of the wine finished ferment in barrel, but the majority was unoaked to allow the fruit to shine.
Terroir: The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Estate’s Padthaway vineyards. The vines are in various types of soil, including red loam, black loam and deep sand over limestone
.
As I experienced the flavor, the aroma and pungent taste of this wine I considered it to be a challenge for my new found love for Shiraz. So I purchased this wine as well during my wine tasting at the Manor in Chelsea on Friday. I accompanied this spicy peppery after taste with a t bone steak and red potatoes and broccoli spears. And I must say my mind was made up that this was just not for me. Personally, I felt it was too dark and rich in flavor and had the after taste of a flat root beer soda. Weird right? I know but maybe if you try it, it can turn out differently for you. But in my opinion this is not a real recommendation from me to you.
New Age wine 2009 A vivacious and sensual wine, exhibiting aromas of fresh flowers and fruit, crisp, yet soft in the finish it is made with 50% sauvignon  blanc and 50% malavasia grapes.
I experienced this wine during the wine tasting held at the Manor in Chelsea on Friday the 19th of August.
At this event they offered 9 wines for the tasting including a rose a Shiraz and merlot. They accompanied the wine with a fruit salad and lightly seasoned pasta salad which complimented each flavor they offered. The new age wine comes from the region of Mendoza, Argentina. It’s considered to be non-vintage.
I consider it to be fun light wine perfectly made for the summer season.
As far as color it is yellow immediately on the nose you smell the scent of flowers petunias and gardenia with a hint of jasmine blossom. On the pallet it is light bodied, ultra crisp and clean yet sweet enough to enjoy it on its own... This wine is from the oldest Argentina wineries in Bodega Valentine Bianchi.

I purchased this wine for myself and enjoyed it and would duly recommend it to those looking for something that has all the right flavors for a standalone enjoyment or a light pasta salad or fruit salad accompaniment. The price is affordable. If you wish to find out more about this selection please feel free to visit www.newagewine.com  for more information.

Wine tasting places for reccomendation

Manor Wines and spirits offer Wine tastings every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and certain Saturdays. Most of their tastings are accompanied by treats such as paired cheeses and crackers, imported breads and spreads. When they venture in to doing cognacs and liqueurs they mostly are just spread out in abundance as far the flavors or fermentation process is concerned. A brief description is given on the history of the wines and spirits and the location is given on where the grapes are harvested. Sometimes there are brochures indicating special equipment or recipes for special occasions are featured for utilizing the featured brand of wine and spirit being offered.  Some pourers are experienced most of the time they a representatives of the company or brand offering 10% discounts on the featured wines of the day upon decision making for purchasing.  This Chelsea location wines and spirits have ambiance of variety and constantly changing displays of tools, kits and accessories for the true wines expert.
Even when I was attending school in the area of the wine and spirits, I would venture off to expanding my knowledge of how to pair wines and spirits with meals, desserts for the pallet’s pleasure. Deciding to go in to the world of bartending introduced me to the evolving world of wine making professionally and for the amateurs looking to become wine makers in their leisure time. I started off my world of mixology, beer tapping and wine pouring for the fullest experience I have ever had. I have no regrets in expanding my horizon from designing and concocting coffee and espresso beverages ranging from 200-250 specialty drink recipes. As a barista presentation and knowledge of the birth of the coffee and espresso bean led me to become an expert on speaking   comfortably about a beverage most coffee drinkers really have no idea about except for how they take it light and sweet or dark and two sugars.

The Winery is a SOHA wines and spirit establishment located in the heart of Harlem where it offers it versatility and diversity of international, custom made and limited edition features of wines, liqueurs, Saki, etc. Upon the opening of its doors the winery has ventured off to relocating just a couple doors down from the original location for marketing purposes and rent pricing. Five years in, this location upgrade to have proven to be the best move for the company. Being closely in range of three popularly forms of transportation as heighten the look and sales of the winery graciously. A team of professionals offer superb customer service and above and beyond the call of duty efforts to increase clientele has proven a sure thing for this up and coming business. Now surrounded by a few restaurants and chic boutiques brings a brighter light to shine on the new location for better recognition and has become a house hold name in the Harlem community. They offer Wine tasting tours on the weekends to Martha’ s vineyards and other popular places of that nature that cater to the growing, fermenting, processing and shipping of the fortified grape transformation in to the 375ml bottle of perfection for all to enjoy.

The two establishments who have a style all their own offer professional, customer service and a vast knowledge of variety and diversity for immediate consideration to turn the average occasional drinker of a chardonnay, merlot, shiraz, Saki, red or white wine seek the different styles and amenities accompanied with a wine’s  light-bodied to heavy bodied flavor, aroma, fruit infused, nutty caramelization, honey sap flavors from places deep in the heart of California to the rich exotic lands of Africa. With over 2,000 wine makers currently functioning in the beverage industry each one offers its own unique spin on flavors, acidity, and body. I would recommend both of these establishments for better knowledge to be gained by a patron who may consider themselves quite comfortable in their choices or ranges of what the “Mighty Grape” have to offer.

California chardonnay........

I had a great experience via wine tasting for the various Classic California Chardonnay from Napa Valley, Sonoma coast, Monterey County, Russian River Valley.
Straight from Russian River Valley Chardonnay made by Frei Brothers Reserve flavored with the ripe green apples, orange zest and apple pie complimented by nutty, buttery and toasty notes finishing with a rich, creamy, caramel mouth feel.
William Hill Estate coming from Napa Valley Chardonnay with elegant aroma of creamy vanilla, red apple and ripe white peach. With a vanilla focus finish, refined acidity, full body with rich hints of butter and spice
Macmurray Ranch from Sonoma Coast Chardonnay has delicate cool-climate aromas of apple; ripe melon and pineapple with subtle oak influence impart flavors of toasted caramel and vanilla
Bridle wood Estate coming from Monterey County Chardonnay with a pure fruit flavor of mandarin orange, pear and pippin apple with hints of clover honey and toasted sugar on the finish
Most grapes were picked, harvested and whole cluster pressed to help eliminate bitterness, to help enhance fermenting some of the choices included steel tank and oak barrels, use of combination of new and used oak barrels, or even fermented on light lees and completed malolactic fermentation in the barrel.
To compliment one of the selections above one might want to try a rich dish such as halibut in cream sauce, robust corn chowder. To enhance the flavor of the wine you may want to try pairing with something accompanying toasted nuts, bacon, mushrooms or even tarragon. Happy pairing!

New Acai Spirit-Wine Tasting

On Thursday afternoon, I took nice stroll three doors down from my place of work to endure in a wine tasting that takes place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at The Manor Wines and Spirits located in Chelsea. I was introduced to something new…the first Acai Spirit that goes by the name of “VEEV”. It’s described as a liqueur however; it is soothing enough on the pallets to be considered a vodka infused kind of beverage. It’s known as the world’s first Acai spirit an exotic Brazilian national fruit considered a healthy fruit and a better way to drink. Made in Idaho and where they use the solar light system for fermentation process and for each purchase Veev donates $1 per bottle sold to the Rainforest preservation and they are proud to be the first certified neutral spirits company in the world.

The signature drinks mixes that are highly suggested are the following the acai lemonade, acai mojito, super fruit margarita and of course a beverage list is never complete until you have a Cosmo. During the wine tasting a young lady representing the company spoke about the factual information on the healthy benefits of drinking this instead of a cognac or household brand vodka. Along with the purchase of the delightful beverage they give a pitcher enrobed with all the famous ways to spice up your drink menu for $28.99. I enjoyed it plain with no chaser as well as with the pink lemonade that was being offered during the wine tasting.

I would highly recommend you experience this exotic Brazilian fruit infused beverage it will definitely turns heads at your next gathering. Or maybe something you can pick up after a hard day of work or to share with your spouse over a splendid dinner.  For Veev locations, cocktails and pitcher recipes go online to veevlife.com/super fruit and text Veev to 65372 for the nearest locations. And if you wish to learn about the acai fruit in its entirety you can go online to www.veevuniversity.com and receive a sustainable water bottle as great gift. Go green!
